Cherelle went on Instagram on April 13 with this post, and she announced that she and Brittney Griner are going to have their first baby together. The 33-year-old player of the WNBA and her partner were engaged in coloring off the dates in excitement to meet their yet-to-be-born baby, who is going to arrive in July 2024.

They made the announcement through social media with a very touching photo of the couple holding hands, with the ultrasound of their first baby together in the middle. "Can't believe we're less than 3 months away from meeting our favorite human being," read the caption.

Of course, these were followed by tags such as #babygrinercomingsoon and #july2024.

Griner's Joyful Update

As one user commented, "Now this is some beautiful news! Congratulations y’all!!" And, as they do, other fans followed suit in the comment section with well wishes and one-liners: "BABY GRINER LET’S GOO!!

Congratulations,” and “Omg Mini Griner!!! And most of all, they can't wait to meet you!! These joyful words take on a new kind of meaning in a quote representing a bit of a turning point in her life, with her soon-to-arrive "bundle of joy" from her longtime partner, Cherelle.

Their announcement comes after a trying time for Brittney; in 2022, she was on media headlines for her wrongful detention in Russia. The two-time Olympic gold medalist spent almost 300 days in detention following the discovery of cannabis oil in her luggage at a Moscow airport.

Despite claiming it was packed unintentionally, she faced a nine-year prison sentence. Her release was secured through diplomatic efforts by the U.S. State Department, which culminated in a high-profile prisoner swap involving Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

On her return, Brittney Griner continued from where she had left her great run in basketball. So far, in her career, she has averaged 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists a game, and she's the all-time third-leading shot blocker in WNBA history.

That indeed heralds a joyous phase in their lives with Baby Number One on the way; it is heralding new beginnings and a hope for a future to come. Fans and supporters of the game alike will be looking forward with bated breath until the first chapter of life for the Griners is written.
