On a shocking turn of events in Quentin Tarantino's moviemaking journey, the iconic auteur has shelved "The Movie Critic" from being his much-expected tenth and final feature film. Sources with knowledge of what went down said Tarantino, after taking the time to consider it, has made the decision—also after a script rewrite pushed the production timetable—that this will not be the one that serves as his final film.

Much anticipated, as constant rumors spread that veterans of Tarantino's old films would likely reunite for this final outing of his, and Sony was to produce in the wake of their success with him on his last. Known for this visionary storytelling and cinematic style, Tarantino was first-take with Brad Pitt for the lead position—marking their third project after the blockbusters "Inglourious Basterds" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Tarantino's Resilient Pivot

The news of Tarantino putting "The Movie Critic" on ice takes one back a few years ago when he had temporarily put on ice "The Hateful Eight" following a script leak. Despite the betrayal and five years' worth of taking a holiday from the project, he came back after a very successful charity reading with great reviews, thus showing resilience to the craft.

"The Movie Critic" was slated to begin shooting in 2024, following the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, with a storyline set in 1977 California. The film was inspired by a real-life movie critic who wrote for an adult magazine, a nod to Tarantino's own teenage job of servicing vending machines filled with adult magazines.

The unique critic, who stood out with his snarky and intelligent reviews, sparked Tarantino's imagination for what was to be his cinematic swan song. Now, with "The Movie Critic" off the table, Tarantino is returning to the drawing board.

This pivot isn't new for the director; it's a testament to his dynamic approach to filmmaking and his willingness to shift gears when needed. As Tarantino rethinks his final act, the film industry and his fans eagerly await the next chapter of his storied career, which promises to deliver the unexpected.
