Recent documents show that Prince Harry has made a final move by formally renouncing his British residency and embracing the United States as his home. It was obviously a big step, but he chose to disclose it during his engagement with the annual general meeting of Travalyst by video link to make a very clear statement about his new life in America.

Last year, in 2019, Prince Harry launched Travalyst, a non-profit for sustainable tourism. The London-based organization recently shared new filings as part of its year-end formalities, including Harry's updated residency status listing the United States as his "new country/state." The profile is updated and done under poignant circumstances: this was Harry’s first public appearance following the announcement that Kate Middleton has cancer.

It isn't a simple protocol of changing the residence, but there is every indication that Prince Harry is to make the U.S. his permanent home, moving away from his roots in the UK. All along from 2020, with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, he has been at home in Montecito, California.

This move, widely referred to as "Megxit," marked the start of their new lives away from the royal spotlight.

Frogmore Cottage Farewell

Their son pressed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Frogmore Cottage, a home given to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

It was from Frogmore Cottage that they took out on their final departure in 2023, with no official place of residence in the UK and, therefore, under the obligation to be staying at their friends' places or hotels whenever visiting.

In a 2022 interview with "Today," Harry expressed his sense of belonging in the States: “Home for me, now, for the time being, is in the States. And it really feels that way, as well. We’ve been welcomed with open arms and have such a great community up in Santa Barbara”.

The formal declaration in the Travalyst documents cements his stance, transitioning his temporary American residency into a permanent status. During the meeting, Harry also highlighted the importance of community in travel, stating, “Travel and tourism rely on destinations, held together by communities, without which we have nowhere to travel to.

Communities are the beating heart of travel, and we must do better by the people who are the custodians of the places we visit”.
