During an engaging appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Thursday, April 11, Ryan Gosling spoke about his initial hesitation towards his show-stopping performance of "I’m Just Ken" at the 2024 Oscars.

Gosling, who dazzled the audience with his spirited portrayal of Ken in the blockbuster hit "Barbie," confessed that he was initially opposed to performing the song live at the prestigious ceremony held on March 10. “100% no,” was Gosling’s first reaction when approached with the concept, citing concerns over the numerous things that could go awry during a live performance.

However, after reading the glowing reviews and accolades he received post-performance, Gosling humorously remarked to Fallon, "Imagine the reviews if I’d had The Roots," nodding to the beloved house band of Fallon’s show.

The performance was a vibrant spectacle, featuring Gosling in a striking h-t pink suit and black cowboy hat, performing alongside renowned artists such as Mark Ronson, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, and Wolfgang Van Halen.

The stage was shared with fellow actors Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, all contributing to the dynamic presentation. The show's highlight was Gosling passing the microphone to fellow stars Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, America Ferrera, and "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig, who were all in attendance.

Family Behind the Fame

Further adding to the personal anecdotes, Gosling shared a touching glimpse into his family life, discussing his daughters Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee's influence on his career choices. With a light-hearted tone, he recounted their reactions to his rehearsals at home, joking, “Dad’s kenning again,” and describing the household disruptions caused by his transformations into Ken, such as "fake tan stains" and "bleached hair." This delightful story provided an insight not only into Gosling’s professional life but also his role as a father.

He revealed that his Oscar performance was the first live music show his daughters attended, highlighting their familiarity with the choreography and songs, much to his amusement. The episode concluded with a heartfelt note from Eva Mendes, Gosling’s longtime partner, who took to Instagram to playfully urge him to return home after his glamorous stint at the Oscars, reminding him of his fatherly duties with a loving nudge: “You took Ken all the way to the Oscars, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed. ?”
