In a stunning display of musical camaraderie, Olivia Rodrigo surprised her audience at Madison Square Garden on April 5 by inviting Noah Kahan onstage for an impromptu duet. The 21-year-old pop sensation, currently captivating fans on her 'Guts World Tour', shared the spotlight with Kahan, 27, to perform his hit song “Stick Season,” a track Rodrigo has openly admired.

Addressing the New York City crowd, Rodrigo expressed her deep appreciation for Kahan's artistry, stating, “About a year ago, I discovered his music and immediately became a huge fan. His songwriting and vocal talents, coupled with his exceptional stage presence, truly make him a remarkable artist”.

She confessed to attending one of his concerts last year, further solidifying her respect for him both professionally and personally. The performance saw Kahan, clad in a patterned jacket, white T-shirt, and jeans, accompanying the melody on a brown acoustic guitar, while Rodrigo joined in with her purple guitar, creating a memorable moment for those in attendance.

Rodrigo-Kahan Collaboration

Following the concert, Rodrigo took to her social media to celebrate the collaboration, praising Kahan as “the greatest of all time” and sharing a clip of their performance together.

Kahan reciprocated the praise, commending Rodrigo’s rendition of “Stick Season” as superior to his own and lauding her as a “star” after witnessing her live show. This mutual admiration between Rodrigo and Kahan first came into the public eye when Rodrigo covered “Stick Season” during her appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge in October 2023, a gesture Kahan returned by covering Rodrigo’s song “Lacy”.

Their shared respect and fondness for each other’s work have sparked hope among fans for a potential original collaboration in the future. Meanwhile, their respective covers are set to be immortalized on vinyl, scheduled for release on Record Store Day, April 20, further cementing this unique musical friendship.

“Stick Season,” Kahan’s breakout single from his debut album, and “Lacy” from Rodrigo’s sophomore LP, 'Guts,' showcase the deeply personal and reflective nature of both artists’ songwriting.

As Rodrigo previously explained, her songs are a mirror to her feelings, a sentiment that resonates with the authenticity both artists bring to their music.
