Oliver Hudson, the son of celebrated actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson, has opened up about the challenges he faced during his upbringing, specifically pointing out moments when he felt neglected by his mother.

In a revealing discussion on his "Sibling Revelry" podcast, Hudson, at 47, delved into his complex feelings towards his mother, who was his primary caregiver and with whom he spent most of his time. Describing Goldie Hawn as an "amazing mother" who was fully engaged in living her life, Hudson shared that there were instances where he felt sidelined due to her busy work schedule and personal life, which included several boyfriends that he didn't favor.

"This is my own perception as a child who didn’t have a dad and needed her to be there,” he explained, indicating a deeper need for parental presence that he felt was unmet.

Hudson's Journey to Healing

After Hawn's split from Bill Hudson in 1982, she and her children, including actress Kate Hudson, were primarily raised by her.

Hawn's relationship with actor Kurt Russell, which began in 1983 and has continued ever since, brought a semblance of stability to the family dynamic, welcoming a son, Wyatt, in 1986. Seeking to understand and come to terms with his childhood experiences, Hudson recently participated in the Hoffman Process course, a weeklong retreat aimed at uncovering and addressing negative behaviors and thought patterns inherited from parents.

Through this process, Hudson gained a newfound perspective on forgiveness and compassion towards both his mother and father, recognizing the cyclical nature of familial trauma. Reflecting on his father's absence and the impact it had on him, Hudson, now a father to three children with wife Erinn Bartlett, contemplates the legacy of parenting and the imprints left on his own children.

In 2018, Hudson revealed attempts at mending his relationship with his father, spurred by a candid conversation following a public social media post that expressed his feelings of abandonment. This open dialogue marked the beginning of a healing journey, culminating in a heartfelt meeting after 12 years of separation, showcasing the power of communication and understanding in bridging long-standing familial divides.
