In an exciting turn of events that bridges the past with the present, Kevin Bacon is preparing to step back into a familiar scene from his iconic role in the classic movie "Footloose." The acclaimed actor, now 65, has officially announced his intention to attend the prom at Payson High School in Payson, Utah—a location that holds a special place in his heart, as it served as a key filming site for "Footloose" over four decades ago.

This remarkable occasion was sparked by a grassroots campaign initiated by the students of Payson High, who, facing the imminent relocation of their school, wished for the actor to grace their final prom with his presence.

The proposal caught Bacon's attention and led to an unforgettable moment during a segment on the Today show aired on Friday, March 22. Payson High's own Rubie Raff shared the deep significance of the movie's legacy for the town, emphasizing the collective affection and respect the community holds for the film.

Bacon's Enthusiastic Response

In a heartwarming video message broadcasted to the student body gathered in the school gymnasium, Bacon expressed his admiration for the students' passion and dedication. "I've been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back," he remarked, acknowledging the profound impact "Footloose" and Payson High have had on his life.

He praised the students' inventive efforts, including musical tributes, flash mobs, and recreations of scenes from the movie. Moreover, Bacon commended the students for incorporating his charity, Six Degrees, into their prom event.

Founded in 2007, Six Degrees aims to foster community enrichment through various initiatives. Bacon's appreciation for the students' desire to give back to their community was evident as he expressed his admiration for their inspirational actions.

The anticipation reached its peak when Bacon enthusiastically confirmed his attendance, declaring, "I gotta come!" His announcement was met with uproarious applause and excitement from the students. Payson High's Kaleb Dymock and Rubie Raff couldn't contain their joy, eagerly looking forward to the prom and the opportunity to celebrate with Bacon.

"Footloose" has left an indelible mark not only on the town of Payson but also on Kevin Bacon himself. Reflecting on the enduring appeal of the movie, Bacon shared in a 2022 interview with Today, "I think that it was a great gift to be part of that movie." His return to Payson High for the prom symbolizes a full-circle moment, celebrating the lasting connection between a beloved film and its real-world setting.
