In an exciting exclusive, PEOPLE has unveiled the premiere trailer for "STEVE! (martin)," a captivating two-part documentary that delves deep into the illustrious career of comedy titan Steve Martin. At 78 years young, Martin provides fresh interviews and unparalleled insight into his journey through stand-up and cinematic success.

With a touch of his trademark humor, Martin quipped about the documentary, "I’m glad they chose me to be the subject of a biography about me." The documentary is masterfully helmed by Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville, known for his acclaimed 2013 documentary "20 Feet from Stardom." Neville, a lifelong admirer of Martin, shared, "I’ve been a fan of Steve’s since I was a 10-year-old memorizing his comedy albums.

While I’ve always been a follower of his career, working on this documentary revealed even more dimensions of Steve to me." The director also noted Martin's timing for the film, saying, "Steve said he wanted to make this film because it was time, and I believe that’s true." Neville expressed excitement over unearthing a treasure trove of never-before-seen materials spanning Martin’s entire career, from his stand-up days to his iconic film roles.

Steve Martin: Then & Now

"STEVE! (martin)" offers a dual perspective on Martin's life and legacy. The first segment, titled "Then," explores Martin's early challenges and his revolutionary impact on stand-up comedy before he stepped back at the age of 35.

The follow-up, "Now," examines Martin's current zenith, reflecting on the evolution that has brought him joy in both his artistic and personal life. Highlighting Martin's celebrated filmography, including hits like "Parenthood," "Father of the Bride," and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," the documentary also features interviews with notable colleagues such as Tina Fey and Martin Short, his co-star in "Only Murders in the Building." Neville recounted, "Watching Steve and Martin Short work on jokes all day was the most I’ve ever laughed as a director.

Steve is not only a smart and complex individual but incredibly funny, as are his friends!" Neville admires Martin's multifaceted life, stating, "It’s amazing how Steve has touched so many lives in different ways - from the 'wild and crazy guy' to memorable roles in film and television.

Steve has always aimed to tell stories that aren't just humorous but also resonate on a deeper level." "STEVE! (martin)" is more than just a documentary; it's a celebration of the joy and laughter Martin has brought into our homes.

Set to premiere on Apple TV+ on March 29, this documentary invites audiences to rediscover the genius of Steve Martin, whose work has become a cherished part of family entertainment across generations.
