Despite these challenges, Spacey's legal battles, including a notable lawsuit brought by "Star Trek: Discovery" actor Anthony Rapp in October 2022 and a sexual assault trial in the U.K.

in July 2023, concluded with findings of not liable and not guilty, respectively. These outcomes pave the way for Spacey's resurgence in the acting realm, highlighted by his lead role in the indie thriller "Peter Five Eight," featuring Rebecca de Mornay.

This film, set for a limited release in the U.S. on March 22, marks Spacey's first leading performance following the London trial.

Spacey's Devilish Role

In "The Contract," Spacey's portrayal of "The Devil" draws parallels to iconic roles such as Al Pacino's satanic lawyer in "Devil's Advocate" and Robert De Niro's diabolical businessman in "Angel Heart." This character promises to deliver a riveting depiction of evil's manipulation within the human world.

The film's producers, Massimiliano Caroletti and Sandro Lazzarini, expressed their persistent efforts over eight months to secure Spacey for this captivating role, highlighting the actor's pivotal contribution to the film's anticipated success.

Director Massimo Paolucci, known for his diverse filmography including the action-packed "All in One Day," the horror-crime "Medium," and the slasher "Photoshock," brings a seasoned perspective to "The Contract." Paolucci's previous work, including his role as a line producer on Dario Argento's "Dracula 3D," underscores his creative versatility and commitment to the thriller genre.

Kevin Spacey's progressive return to acting also includes his performance in the Italian indie drama "The Man Who Drew God," directed by Franco Nero, and a voiceover role in Gene Fallaize's "Control." As Spacey reestablishes his presence in the film industry, "The Contract" stands as a testament to the actor's enduring appeal and the cinematic community's willingness to embrace complex narratives and challenging roles.
