In a revealing interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ty Pennington, the beloved HGTV personality, shared an uplifting update on his health, following a harrowing health scare that left him hospitalized last July. The incident, which arose from a severe abscess in his throat, had Pennington facing a critical situation after he experienced extreme difficulty breathing.

Eight months on, the 59-year-old star humorously reflects on the ordeal and the overwhelming support he received during his recovery. "I'm great," Pennington enthusiastically told Entertainment Tonight. He light-heartedly added, "You know what's great is if you almost die, you get so much attention.

It feels so nice to be that loved." The star, known for his work on 'Trading Spaces' and as the host of numerous reality shows, jestingly remarked on planning a repeat incident for the affection, though quickly clarified he was joking.

The health scare unfolded in July, shortly after Pennington attended the Barbie red carpet premiere. Taking to Instagram, he recounted waking up at 4 a.m., struggling to breathe, and being rushed to the ICU in Denver for emergency treatment.

An abscess, as explained by medical professionals, is a concentrated collection of pus caused by infection, leading to significant inflammation and potential for severe complications if not promptly addressed.

Renewed Passion Unleashed

Undergoing surgery under anesthesia, Pennington's condition was quickly stabilized, allowing for his release from the ICU the following day.

Reflecting on the experience, Pennington shared with Entertainment Tonight the profound realization of life's fragility. "It made me realize you just don't know when your timecard's gonna get pulled, so wake up, live every single day to the fullest," he expressed, emphasizing the renewed perspective he gained on cherishing every moment.

The ordeal has also influenced his dedication to his professional endeavors, particularly the upcoming fifth season of his HGTV reality competition series, "Rock the Block." Pennington conveyed his excitement for the new season, highlighting the passion and determination of the competing teams.

"I think this season could be the greatest season ever because there's so much at stake...And when you've got four teams that are trying to prove themselves, there is nothing they're gonna hold back," he said, showcasing his enthusiasm for the innovative designs and fierce competition the show promises.

"Rock the Block" continues to captivate audiences, airing Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV, with previous seasons available for streaming on Max. Pennington's experience, underscored by a mix of humor, gratitude, and a renewed zest for life, not only sheds light on his personal journey but also serves as a heartfelt reminder of the value of each day and the importance of pursuing one's passions with vigor and determination.
