In a surprising turn of events, Prince William was notably absent from a memorial service held in honor of the late King Constantine II of Greece at Windsor Castle this Tuesday. This unforeseen absence comes as his wife, Kate Middleton, is recuperating from an abdominal surgery she underwent recently.

The specifics behind the Prince of Wales' decision to skip the service remain undisclosed. However, a spokesperson from Kensington Palace assured the public that the Princess of Wales is recuperating satisfactorily from her procedure.

Prince William, aged 41, had initially been slated to deliver a reading at the event. Nevertheless, he contacted the Greek royal family at the eleventh hour to express his regret for having to withdraw due to "personal reasons," as reported by the Daily Mail.

In his stead, Crown Prince Pavlos, the eldest son of Constantine, took up the mantle to conduct the reading. The Duchess of Cambridge, now 42, is currently convalescing at home and has been advised against attending any public engagements until the post-Easter period.

Despite having her surgery scheduled for January, Middleton was reported to have resumed some of her royal duties from the confines of her bed earlier in the month.

Royal Memorial Service

King Constantine, who passed away on January 10, 2023, at the age of 82, was the last reigning King of Greece and held a special place in the British royal family as Prince William's godfather.

The ceremony saw Queen Camilla taking a leading role, amidst her husband, King Charles III's, continued absence from the public eye due to his ongoing cancer treatment. The event was attended by various members of the British royal family, including Prince Andrew, his former wife Sarah Ferguson, their daughters Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, as well as Princess Anne, alongside Zara and Mike Tindall.

Notably, the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—were absent. King Charles, who has been residing at Windsor Castle during his treatment, was seen on the estate earlier that day but departed in the morning.

He did not meet with the Greek royals who had made the journey for the memorial service. At 75, King Charles recently disclosed his cancer diagnosis, returning to his royal duties last week for a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace.

During this meeting, he shared his emotional struggle, revealing that the outpouring of support has often moved him to tears. The type of cancer King Charles is battling remains undisclosed. However, his openness about his diagnosis is intended to foster transparency and offer solace to others facing similar battles.

Ascending to the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, King Charles has positioned his eldest son, Prince William, as the immediate successor, ensuring the continuity of the British monarchy's legacy.
