Kevin Costner has just gotten a final divorce from Christine Baumgartner, definitively ending one of the high-profile chapters in the life of the star. Their divorce was confirmed on February 16, capping a difficult and much discussed separation.

The famous actor, who shot to stardom in such films as "The Bodyguard" and the television series "Yellowstone," has just had his marriage formally dissolved by a Santa Barbara court. According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the decision followed a waiver request by Baumgartner's legal team for the mandatory co-parenting class.

The couple first hit the headlines in regard to the break-up in September last year. The decision to have joint custody of the three children was made as a mutual agreement then. A representative for Costner, 69, had also stated that they had resolved most of their disputes.

The actor and Baumgartner had reached "an amicable and mutually agreed upon resolution of all issues pertaining to their divorce proceedings." Baumgartner said in her court papers that the date of separation was April 11.

Costner's representative, meantime, said he was sorry to announce the "unfortunate situation" of his client, blaming it to "out-of-control circumstances," and asked for privacy for the family during the time.

Costner's Monthly Support Set

Money was at the center of the divorce.

The Santa Barbara hearing judge, on those two days in August, ordered Costner to pay $63,209 in support every month to Baumgartner, in line with the proposal Costner and his legal team had made. The $71,572 was also less than what Baumgartner's lawyers initially sought: the $175,057 claimed by the plaintiff and below the tentative $129,755 that the court said it was willing to set his compensation.

During the proceedings, Costner was quoted as saying, "My main worry is that the court orders me to pay child support that is in excess of the needs of my kids and for the wants of Christine." Their children include 16-year-old son Cayden, 14-year-old son Hayes, and 13-year-old daughter Grace.

Costner and Baumgartner crossed paths serendipitously at a golf course as both prepared for Costner's 1996 romantic comedy "Tin Cup." They finally met again in 1998 and later got married in 2004 on a 160-acre ranch owned by Costner in Aspen, Colorado.
