In a poignant tribute during the season finale of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," the late Lance Reddick was honored for his unforgettable portrayal of Zeus. Reddick, known for his commanding presence and versatility, passed away at the age of 60 due to heart disease in March 2023, shortly after completing his work on the Disney+ series.

In the series' climactic first season finale, Reddick's Zeus character plays a crucial role in a scene with the show's protagonist, portrayed by Walker Scobell. As the episode concluded, a touching title card appeared, stating, “In loving memory of Lance Reddick,” paying homage to the actor's lasting impact on the show.

Rick Riordan, the esteemed author behind the Percy Jackson novels, also paid tribute to Reddick on his blog. He reminisced about Reddick's "vibrant, kind, and talented" nature, highlighting the disparity between Reddick's warm personality and the aloof deity he portrayed.

Riordan praised Reddick's “marvelous and quirky sense of humor,” his thoughtfulness, and his insightful nature.

Reddick's Role Legacy

The news of Reddick's untimely passing came as a shock to fans and colleagues alike.

The revered actor, also known for his role in the "John Wick" franchise, died in his Studio City home in Los Angeles. His death occurred just days before the premiere of the fourth "John Wick" film, in which he played a pivotal role.

With the second season of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" not yet officially announced, the question of who will step into the role of Zeus remains unanswered. Jonathan Steinberg, the showrunner, spoke to Variety about the challenge of replacing Reddick.

He acknowledged the indelible mark Reddick left on the character, expressing confidence that Reddick's influence will resonate through whoever assumes the role. Steinberg assured fans that the core cast, including Scobell, Leah Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, will return, alongside new characters.

The show's dedication to preserving Reddick's legacy in its portrayal of Zeus is a testament to the actor's profound impact on the series and its audience.
