In a recent heart-to-heart, Johnny Depp, the illustrious actor known for his role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean', divulged a surprising revelation about his latest venture into film direction. In an exclusive statement to Variety, Depp disclosed that it was none other than Al Pacino who played a pivotal role in persuading him to take the helm for his upcoming biopic, 'Modi'

Depp, who has been engrossed in the directorial duties of 'Modi', expressed his profound appreciation for Pacino's influence. "Taking the reins as the director of 'Modi' has been an immensely rewarding and eye-opening endeavor," stated Depp.

This project marks Depp’s first directorial effort since the 1997 film 'The Brave', in which he not only directed but also starred alongside the legendary Marlon Brando. In a tone of deep gratitude, Depp acknowledged the collective efforts of his team.

“I extend my deepest thanks to the cast, crew, and producers for their steadfast dedication and artistic flair," he said. He reserved special praise for Pacino, noting, “Al's urging was the decisive factor – refusing Pacino is not an option.

His generous input and commitment to this project deserve heartfelt recognition”.

Modi: A Cinematic Journey

Depp went on to describe 'Modi' as a celebration of independent cinema's collaborative essence. “This film stands as a tribute to the spirit of teamwork in independent filmmaking.

I'm thrilled to bring this unique and gripping narrative to audiences globally,” he added. Set against the backdrop of World War I, 'Modi' chronicles the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The story unfolds over 48 hours, encapsulating Modigliani's turbulent escapades through war-ravaged Paris.

As he evades the police and contemplates leaving the city, Modigliani's life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters a collector who has the power to alter his destiny. This directorial venture emerges as Depp's first major project following his role in 'Jeanne du Barry' last year, marking a significant new chapter in his illustrious career.

As Depp steps into the director's seat with 'Modi', his journey promises to be a fascinating evolution from actor to filmmaker, guided by the wisdom and encouragement of Al Pacino.
