The untimely death of Matthew Perry, known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on the television series "Friends," has ignited conversations about his potential posthumous honor with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Perry, who was 54, was found deceased in his bathtub due to what is suspected to be an accidental drowning, leaving behind a legacy that surpasses his acting career. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, custodians of the Walk of Fame, conveyed to Entertainment Tonight that the decision to commemorate Perry with a star lies with his relatives.

Although the Chamber has not yet been approached by Perry's family, they regard the installation of his star as a fitting tribute to his influential life and career.

Perry's Star Delayed

Perry, who was initially selected for the Walk of Fame star in 2013, did not see the honor come to fruition within the five-year deadline for the ceremony, leading to the expiration of his nomination in 2018.

His recent passing on October 28 at his home in Los Angeles has rekindled interest in granting him this accolade, which he was once qualified to receive while he was alive. An advocate for addiction recovery, Perry was candid about his own struggles in his memoir "Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing" and emphasized his desire to be remembered for more than just his role in "Friends." He voiced his aspirations to be known for the help he extended to those battling addiction, expressing a heartfelt mission to be a guiding light for sobriety.

In a poignant interview with Tom Power on the "Q" podcast in November 2022, Perry highlighted the importance he placed on his off-screen endeavors, "The best thing about me, bar none, is if somebody comes up to me and says, 'I can't stop drinking.

Can you help me?' I can say yes and follow up and do it," he affirmed. Perry's commitment to aiding others fight addiction remains his most admirable legacy, one that has been cemented with the establishment of the Matthew Perry Foundation on the Friday following his death.

The nonprofit organization vows to continue Perry's advocacy by providing support and resources to individuals struggling with addiction, ensuring that his impact endures beyond his acclaimed career and personal trials. In remembrance of Perry's multifaceted life, the outpouring of tributes from fans, friends, and family not only celebrates his television stardom but also honors his unwavering support for those in need—a true testament to a star whose brightness extended well beyond the screen.
