Molly Hurwitz, the former fiancée of renowned "Friends" actor Matthew Perry, has opened up about the profound love they shared, following his sudden and tragic passing this past Saturday at the age of 54. In an emotional Instagram post shared on Monday, 32-year-old Hurwitz, a literary manager by profession, penned a heartfelt caption alongside a silhouette photo of Perry.
“He would be touched to know the world is reminiscing about his incredible talent. And indeed, he was immensely talented,” she wrote. As fans and friends worldwide are revisiting Perry’s iconic performances in light of the reunion of the "Friends" cast, Hurwitz revealed, “We found ourselves rewatching the series together as the reunion special was on the horizon.
‘Damn, I was phenomenal!..Did you catch that???’ he would exclaim. We’d replay scenes, dissecting and admiring the genius of his craft. Our shared love and appreciation for comedy created a unique bond between us.
Witnessing him rediscover his own brilliance was nothing short of magical”.
Unveiling a Complex Love
But, Hurwitz didn’t shy away from addressing the complexities of their relationship, stating, “Of course, I knew him in a way that was profoundly personal.
My love for him was as deep as the ocean, yet he was a complicated man, and our journey together was fraught with challenges. The pain he brought into my life was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Matthew Langford Perry left an indelible mark on my life, for which I am eternally grateful”.
She continued, acknowledging the support she found in Al Anon, a program for friends and family members of individuals who have alcoholism or drug addiction. “Their resources were invaluable to me during our most challenging times,” she added.
Concluding her post, Hurwitz expressed a sense of relief for Perry’s newfound peace, signing off affectionately, “Matty, you are finally at peace. With all my love, Moll-o-Rama(…fication)”.
Perry was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home’s hot tub on Saturday afternoon, with initial reports suggesting a possible drowning.
However, an official cause of death is still pending following toxicology results. Known for his struggles with addiction, Perry had prescription drugs in his home at the time of his death. Nicholas Prange, spokesperson for the LA Fire Department, provided an official statement, saying, “When we responded to the scene, we found an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi.
A good Samaritan had already moved him to the edge of the tub, and we took over from there. Despite our rapid response and medical assessment, it was apparent that he had passed away before we arrived. Our investigation into the circumstances is ongoing, in conjunction with the LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner”.
Perry and Hurwitz began their relationship in 2018, got engaged in November 2020, and ultimately decided to part ways in June 2021. Reflecting on their split, Perry shared with People at the time, “Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them.
I wish Molly nothing but the best”. Hurwitz, who was seen visibly upset at a dog park in LA on Sunday, is evidently grappling with the loss. Meanwhile, Perry’s "Friends" co-stars have collectively expressed their devastation, releasing a joint statement: “The loss of Matthew has left us heartbroken.
We were more than co-stars; we were a family. Words fail us at this moment, and we need time to mourn this inconceivable loss. In due time, we will express more, but for now, we are holding Matthew’s family, friends, and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
He was loved by so many, and he will be profoundly missed”. This collective statement serves as a testament to the impact Perry had on those around him, leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the screen.
