In a recent development surrounding pop sensation Britney Spears, Ventura County Sheriff's Office confirmed conducting a wellness check at her residence. This action was prompted after Spears posted a video on social media where she was seen dancing with what appeared to be knives.
The call to the police was made not by a concerned fan, but someone who shared a personal relationship with Spears, HuffPost learned. Dean Worthy from Ventura County Sheriff’s Office remarked, “Normally, we don't respond to calls related to celebrities based solely on fans' concerns from social media posts.
However, in this instance, the individual who reported had a personal connection with Britney, which led us to take it more seriously."
Spears' Team Assures Safety
When law enforcement arrived, they were greeted by Spears’ head of security via an intercom.
Assuring them of her wellbeing, he mentioned that the star was "absolutely fine." Shortly after, her attorney furthered this assurance, emphasizing that the video was just Spears' way of self-expression. Worthy, after gathering all the information, was satisfied that Spears was safe and not in any distress.
This isn't the first instance where Spears' actions or posts raised eyebrows. She has always been candid on social platforms, frequently sharing videos of herself dancing. However, the introduction of knives – even if not real, as she later clarified – naturally sparked concern amongst her vast follower base.
Addressing the concerns, Spears highlighted that the dance was merely an homage to Shakira's recent MTV Video Music Awards performance. She even lightheartedly told her fans to "lighten up." However, these concerns are not new.
Just after her conservatorship ended a little over a year ago, fans had similarly voiced concerns for her well-being, prompting a wellness check. On that occasion, Spears had voiced her displeasure, stating, "This felt like I was being gaslit and bullied once the incident made it to the news and being portrayed once again in a poor and unfair light by the media”.
A close source to Spears informed NBC News, "She was expressing her freedom. She’s doing fine." In a recent Instagram post, the star also conveyed her sentiments saying, "Since everyone thinks they know my story. THINK AGAIN!!!
I am who I am, and I've never felt better." Currently, Spears’ representative has not commented on the situation.
