During a recent appearance at Invest Fest 2023 in Atlanta, renowned comedian Steve Harvey took a moment to quash swirling rumors surrounding his personal life. Launching his session, Harvey candidly addressed the whispers about potential discord in his marriage.
"I need to clear the air before we move forward. Both Marjorie and I are perfectly fine," he assured the audience. "I don't quite understand what folks are busying themselves with, but maybe it's time to find a new hobby. We're in good spirits."
Harvey Dismisses Baseless Gossip
To this, the audience responded with enthusiastic applause and laughter, appreciating his wit.
Harvey added with poise, "There's a temptation to respond to all the chatter. But honestly? I don't entertain baseless gossip." Previously, there were unverified reports circulating that Marjorie Harvey, Steve's wife of over a decade and a half, was allegedly involved in an affair and contemplating divorce.
The narrative quickly gained traction on various social platforms, even mutating into memes. Not to be left behind, Marjorie, choosing discretion, indirectly addressed the conjectures. She shared an article on her Instagram titled "How to Handle Being Lied About," stating, "We don’t usually give credence to such fabrications.
But we recognize our position of influence. It's a responsibility, especially to those perhaps not as resilient as us. I hope this article lends some perspective. Stay blessed." Ned Nwoko, the Nigerian political figure and philanthropist, stepped up in solidarity with the Harveys.
Sharing on Instagram, Nwoko recounted reaching out to the couple directly. "It's disheartening to see the extent of 'fake news' today. Steve and Marjorie are united, content, and the rumors are absolutely unfounded. Let's wish them nothing but happiness." It's possible that these rumors mushroomed from the shadows of a recent tweet from Steve's account.
The tweet, perceived by many as negative, prompted fans to list comedians they didn’t resonate with. Addressing this, Steve clarified that he wasn’t the author of the tweet, emphasizing his commitment to positivity.
In a subsequent video, he affirmed, "My brand is rooted in uplifting others. That tweet wasn’t in line with who I am or what I stand for."
