In the aftermath of her separation from Ethan Slater, and amidst swirling rumors of his budding romance with "Wicked" co-star Ariana Grande, Lilly Jay has broken her silence for the first time. In an exclusive interview with Page Six, Jay underlined that the current focus should be on Grande rather than herself, saying, "The story, really, is her, not a girl's girl." Jay took a clear swipe at Grande while articulating her concern for her family, viewing them as "just collateral damage" in this high-profile drama.
At this tumultuous period, Jay's immediate priority remains "being a good mom" to the son she shares with Slater, born just last year.
Grande and Slater's Emerging Romance
These revelations come on the heels of reports suggesting Grande and Slater's burgeoning romance, following her separation from her husband of two years, real estate mogul Dalton Gomez.
Sources quoted by PEOPLE claim that Slater and Grande, who met on the set of the "Wizard of Oz" prequel, "Wicked," started seeing each other after ending their respective marriages. Grande takes center stage as Glinda in the play, while Slater portrays Boq, who finds love with Elphaba's (played by Cynthia Erivo) younger sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), after Glinda rejects him.
Meanwhile, Slater, well known for his performance as SpongeBob SquarePants in the 2017 Broadway adaptation of the beloved cartoon, which earned him a Tony nomination, reportedly filed for divorce from Jay in New York last Wednesday.
As of yet, a representative for Slater has not responded to EW's request for comment. Amid the confusion, it's important to clarify that Slater is not to be mistaken with Tom Kenny, the voice behind the animated SpongeBob.
His wife, Jill Talley, recently took to Instagram to correct some erroneous headlines, humorously stating that her husband of 27 years is not dating the pop starlet. "I don't know if Ethan Slater (who played SpongeBob in the musical) is or isn't dating Ariana Grande," she cheekily noted, adding, "However, they're both adorable and I totally ship it. Just wanted to set the record straight."
