Drake Reveals Unconventional Views on Marriage and Love in Candid Podcast Interview
by FARUK IMAMOVIC
In an exclusive conversation on The Really Good Podcast, Drake opened up about marriage, dating, and his penchant for individuals who break the mold.
Reluctant to Tie the Knot
Age 36 and one of the world's most celebrated musicians, Drake sat down with podcast host Bobbi Althoff last Thursday, inviting the public into his intimate thoughts on love, dating, and why he has yet to settle down.
When probed about his bachelor status, the music star revealed a somewhat unconventional perspective on marriage. "I don’t know. It seems like a thing of, like, ancient times or something," he mused. "I think I will eventually.
… I don't know, I don’t think I can offer somebody what they’d be looking for. Just consistency. I think my life, my work is my priority”. Countering Althoff's jest that Drake remains untethered to freely "sleep around," the rapper emphasized his current inability to provide "consistency" or the necessary dedication that a relationship deserves at this stage of his life.
“I don’t wanna get married 'cause I just don’t wanna disappoint someone," he expressed earnestly. "And I’m not like, Amish”.
Not Just Anybody
But that's not to say the Grammy-winning artist isn't open to love.
Drake has certain expectations when it comes to his potential life partner - namely, that they be anything but ordinary. "I probably will not end up marrying someone famous," he revealed to Althoff, casually debunking the tabloid-fueled speculation that often surrounds his love life.
"Famous people really aren't that, like, anything — they're not that intriguing." What, then, sparks Drake's interest? According to him, a significant other should be "Somebody that’s an individual”. He elaborated, "They’re not just not like a carbon copy, like a person that I’ve seen a bunch of times throughout my existence.
I like somebody with a sense of humor, you know?" Althoff playfully responded to Drake's standards, saying, “Wow, you really have high standards”. To which he added, “I like—I don’t know, like, cosplay”.
Althoff, intrigued, asked, "What do you want them to dress up as?” Drake clarified, “No, I don’t need them to [dress up]—I probably will f--- with them more if they are into cosplay. Not with me, just like generally”.
“You’re weirder than I thought you were,” Althoff told him. Drake’s response? “That’s a fact for sure. You have no idea, honey”.
