In an event that has shocked Hollywood and the world at large, the esteemed actor Robert De Niro is mourning the loss of his grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez. Leandro, a young man of only 19, was the son of Drena De Niro, Robert's eldest child.

His passing was announced through a heart-wrenching Instagram post by Drena on Sunday.

A Mother's Heartbreak

Drena took to Instagram, a popular social media platform, to share the devastating news and bid her son a poignant farewell.

In an emotional message, Drena conveyed her love for Leandro and the profound impact he had on her life. "My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly," Drena wrote. "You have been my joy, my heart, and all that was ever pure and real in my life.

I don’t know how to live without you, but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama." The post is testament to a mother's unmeasurable grief. Drena apologized to her son, expressing her wish that love could have been enough to save him.

"Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy," she ended her post.

De Niro's Family Ties

Drena De Niro, herself a respected actress and filmmaker, is Robert De Niro's oldest child.

The acclaimed actor adopted Drena in 1976 when he married her mother, Diahnne Abbott. Drena adopted her then stepfather's last name, hence becoming part of the De Niro family. Drena and her son resided in New York City. In recent times, Drena had been posting photos on Instagram that commemorated their shared moments. One such occasion was Mother's Day, a special day where the bond between mother and child is universally celebrated.
