At 56, actress Salma Hayek continues to turn heads and draw attention on the red carpet. Frequently opting for audacious and provocative attire, the star's penchant for deep necklines has, however, elicited a mix of both praise and censure.
Despite the criticism, Hayek remains steadfast, standing up for her choices and highlighting the intricate process that goes into her festival appearances. Reflecting on the work behind the scenes of the Cannes Film Festival, she shared, “So much work goes into [it], from my friend @gregwilliamsphotography who's been photographing me since my first Cannes experience, to my hair and makeup girls @jennifer_yepez & @sofiatilbury.
You could only appreciate their artistry if you had seen me when I woke up that day”.
Shining in Alexander McQueen
This year, the acclaimed actress made a stunning appearance in Cannes, donning a dress by renowned British designer Alexander McQueen.
The design accentuated her curves, a feature that has prompted speculation around the possibility of plastic surgery—an assertion that Hayek vehemently denies. Hayek responded candidly to the claims, expounding on the natural physiological changes that women experience throughout their lives.
She remarked, “For some women, they get smaller. But there are some women that when you gain weight, your boobs grow, and other women that when you have children and you breastfeed, your boobs grow and they don’t go back down, and then in some of the cases when you are in menopause, they grow again”.
She added, “I just happen to be one of those women that it happened in every single step! When I gain weight, when I got pregnant, and when I am in menopause”.
A Plea for Elegance
While many fans of Hayek remain in awe of her enduring beauty and youthful appearance, some have expressed a desire for a stylistic shift.
They propose that her wardrobe ought to evolve to reflect a more elegant style, one they believe to be more befitting of her stature and status in the world of cinema. Hayek's candid nature and unwavering confidence, paired with her talent and professional prowess, ensure that she will continue to be a significant figure on the red carpet, regardless of the opinions of her critics.
As she navigates the complex and often fickle world of fashion, she does so with poise and resilience, embodying the quintessence of individual style and grace.
