Actor Ben Affleck recently made an appearance on "The Late Late Show" hosted by James Corden, where he shared some of his experiences living with his best friend, Matt Damon, and his brother Casey Affleck. In his interview, Affleck reflects on his friendship with Damon and provides an inside look at what it was like to be roommates with an Oscar-nominated actor.
The Sloppy Roommate
In his interview, Affleck claimed that Damon was a messy roommate who never paid the bills. He said, “Matt’s never paid a bill to this day. Why are the lights not working? I guess because the utility company needs money so it can continue to fund our electricity”.
Affleck also mentioned that Damon's sloppiness had been a long-standing issue in their apartment, but he and his brother had decided to go on a "sit-down strike" to try and make Damon see the mess. He said, “Me and my brother, after cleaning up after the guy for years, we said, ‘You know what, we’re gonna go sit-down strike.’ We’re going to wait and see how long he could go before he finally gets up and goes, ‘I’m covered in garbage.’ We went weeks, two weeks, without touching the apartment”.
A Brilliant Actor, A Lousy Roommate
Despite Damon's messiness, Affleck emphasized his love and admiration for his best friend, saying, “Matt’s a beautiful guy, and we love him, he’s my best friend, he’s been great to me my whole life, and he’s a brilliant guy… I would not suggest [being his roommate] because he has an ability to block things out — I think that’s why he’s such a great actor, because he can just focus — one of the things he blocks out is the idea that when you finish with something, it has to be washed or thrown away”.
As a reminder, Affleck and Damon recently worked together on the film "Air", which Affleck directed and produced. Despite their differences as roommates, Affleck and Damon have remained close friends and continue to collaborate on various projects.
