Brad Pitt, the award-winning actor known for his roles in "Fight Club" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," has been the subject of recent news for his charitable actions. A former neighbor of the actor, John, was granted a gracious and uncommon opportunity to live in Brad Pitt's former estate in Los Feliz, California, rent-free.
A Philanthropic Act of Kindness
According to Cassandra Peterson, the actress who starred in the popular "Elvira" franchise, Brad Pitt purchased the 1.9-acre estate in 1994, where he lived with his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, and their six children.
In a recent interview with People, Peterson recounts the unlikely arrangement that allowed John to live in the property without any monetary obligation. “He was very, very kind to the husband,” Peterson said of the actor. “[This man's] wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there.
I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died”. As Pitt slowly acquired neighboring properties that hit the market, he stumbled upon a property owned by a widower in his early nineties.
In a heartwarming act of compassion, Pitt made an agreement that the elderly man could continue living in the house rent-free, until his passing. “I think there were like 22 houses that were contiguous to the edge of the property,” Peterson shared. “And every time they came up, he bought one”.
Peterson joked that the arrangement felt like John "just kept living forever," but noted that the actor must have thought, “Well, you know, he can live there till he dies, which might be any minute now”.
The Sale of a Legacy
In March, it was announced that Pitt had sold the said property for $39 million, which included an ice rink, tennis court, lake, swimming pool, skate park, ballroom, and movie theater.
Despite its luxurious features, the property will forever be remembered as a symbol of Brad Pitt's benevolent gesture and philanthropic act of kindness towards a neighbor in need.
