The wife of legendary Formula One driver, Michael Schumacher, has faced numerous difficulties since her husband's tragic accident nearly a decade ago. According to Eddie Jordan, a former motorsport team owner and close friend of the couple, Corinna has been unable to attend social events due to the constant reminder of her husband's condition.
A Prisoner in Her Own Life
Jordan recounts the impact the accident has had on Corinna, stating, "It's been nearly 10 years now and Corinna has not been able to go to a party, to lunch or this or that, she’s like a prisoner because everyone would want to talk to her about Michael when she doesn’t need reminding of it every minute”.
Eddie Jordan himself was prohibited from visiting Michael last year, as the family has made a concerted effort to protect their private life from public scrutiny. Jordan explains, "Corinna has set out some rules for those wanting to visit the seven-time Formula One world champion”.
Protecting Michael and Their Privacy
Corinna's devotion to her husband and their privacy is evident in her emotional words in a 2022 Netflix documentary about Michael's life. She says, "Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength, I find.
We’re together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond." Corinna has made it clear that maintaining her husband's privacy is of the utmost importance, as she states, "Private is private, as he always said.
It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael." Despite the difficulties they have faced, Corinna and her family are determined to carry on with their lives, just as Michael would have wanted.
