In a recent development, the Disney+ network has revealed its plans to premiere a four-part documentary series, entitled "The Sum of It All," which will provide an in-depth and personal look into the life of British musical sensation, Ed Sheeran.
This series is slated to air on May 3rd and will offer audiences a candid glimpse into the star's rise to superstardom, his family, and his struggles with stuttering as a child
.A Journey Through Adversity
The documentary series will showcase Sheeran's journey from his childhood to his current position as one of the world's most celebrated musicians.
Footage from Sheeran's childhood will be interspersed with scenes from his sold-out tours, offering a unique perspective on the artist's life. The series will also delve into Sheeran's friendship with music producer Jamal Edwards, who gave him his first big break but sadly passed away last year.
An Emotional Journey
In a statement, Sheeran spoke about the significance of this project and why he felt it was the right time to open up and let people into his personal life. "I've always been very guarded in my personal and private life; the only documentary I've ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting.
Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary, and it felt like the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it," he said. The documentary will also address the health issues faced by Sheeran's wife, Cherry Seaborn, including her diagnosis with a tumor while she was pregnant with their daughter.
The singer spoke about the profound impact that Seaborn has had on his life, saying, "Everything in my life got so much better when Cherry came into it. I got married, I became a dad who has two daughters." Despite these joys, the singer also faced a series of emotional challenges, including the death of his friend Jamal Edwards and his wife's illness.
In a particularly poignant moment, the video shows Sheeran breaking down on stage, as his wife comments that he has yet to fully confront his emotions.
A Musical Reflection
The documentary series will also touch upon Sheeran's creative process, including the development of his latest album, "Subtract." On March 1st, the musician announced that he had poured his "deepest, darkest thoughts" into this new album.
"I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be," he shared. "Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art," he said.
