"Basic Instinct" Triggered Sharon Stone's Heartbreak and Loss of Custody

The acclaimed Hollywood actress Sharon Stone has recently opened up about the traumatic experience she underwent after the release of her iconic film "Basic Instinct." The film, which was released in 1992, saw Stone play the role of a crime novelist who becomes a suspect in the brutal murder of a rock star.

Despite its massive success, the film would have a lasting impact on Stone's life.

The Trauma of Losing Custody

Eight years after the release of "Basic Instinct," Stone adopted her son Roan with her then-husband Phil Bronstein.

However, she lost custody of Roan in a court battle with her ex-husband. The actress revealed that the judge questioned her ability as a parent precisely because of her role in the film. "I lost custody of my child," Stone said during a recent interview. "A judge asked my tiny little boy 'do you know your mother makes s*x movies?' It was abuse by the system." Stone went on to describe the toll that the loss of custody took on her health.

"I ended up in the Mayo Clinic with extra heartbeats in my upper and lower chamber of my heart," she said. "It broke my heart."

The Impact of "Basic Instinct"

In her 2021 memoir "The Beauty of Living Twice," Stone revealed that she was not aware of the nudity in the scene until she watched the film at a screening alongside industry professionals. "That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time," she wrote.

"I knew what film I was doing. For heaven's sake, I fought for that part, and all that time, only this director had stood up for me." Despite the criticism she faced, Stone has continued to work in Hollywood and has adopted two more sons, Quinn Kelly Stone and Laird Vonne Stone.

The story of Sharon Stone highlights the impact that a film can have on an actor's personal life. Despite the critical and commercial success of "Basic Instinct," the film would have a lasting impact on Stone's health and family life.

Despite the challenges she faced, Stone has continued to work in Hollywood and has become an advocate for women's rights and equality.
