Dwayne Wade has been the legal custodian of Zaya, now 15 years old, since 2011.

Dwayne's request to legally affirm Zaya's identity was made after Zaya asked for his support.
The requested amendments would allow Zaya to live more comfortably and honestly, from simple introductions to more significant life decisions such as obtaining a driver's license or filling out college applications.

In his statement, Dwayne emphasized that he and his wife, Gabrielle Union, would never "force Zaya or any of [their] children to do anything against their will, much less force an identity on them." Dwayne and Gabrielle are also the proud parents of 4-year-old daughter Kaavia and 20-year-old son Zaire.
