Shakira's Ex-Boyfriend, a Lawyer, Sued for $250 Million After Breakup

The Colombian singer Shakira has been in the public eye for over two decades, captivating audiences with her music and her personal life. In recent months, her relationship with soccer player Gerard Pique has been under scrutiny following allegations of infidelity.

Despite the criticism directed towards Pique, millions of fans have shown support for Shakira on social media.

Shakira's Past Relationships

As the world reflects on Shakira's current situation, many have also remembered her previous relationship with lawyer Antonio de la Rua.

The couple met in 2000 while de la Rua was working on his father's political campaign and Shakira was promoting her album. In 2009, Shakira expressed her desire to settle down with de la Rua in an interview with Rolling Stone.

However, in 2011, the couple announced their separation on Shakira's official website.

The Fallout of a Failed Romance

Despite their amicable split, de la Rua filed a lawsuit against Shakira worth 250 million dollars in 2012.

In the lawsuit, he claimed that he left his career as a publicist to become her manager and demanded monetary compensation for his work. The lawsuit was dismissed by the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2013. In early 2011, Shakira announced on her official website that they had broken up.

“Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship,” the letter reads. “Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now.

We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives,” they continue, adding that de la Rua will continue to “oversee and conduct” Shakira’s business matters”.

Shakira went on to meet and fall in love with Gerard Pique, with whom she has two children. Despite the challenges she has faced in her personal life, Shakira remains a beloved and successful artist, captivating audiences with her music and her spirit.
