Musician John Legend and former model Chrissy Teigen have released the first photo of their newborn daughter. "She’s here! Esti Maxine Stephens - the house is bustling and our family could not be happier ? Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love, and I am learning you still need diapers with a c section!? We are in bliss.
Thank you for all the love and well wishes - we feel it all! X" Chrissy wrote on Instagram.
Adding to their family
In March, Legend spoke with PEOPLE about his family's anticipation for the new arrival.
He said, "We're all excited... my kids are old enough to really be aware of what's happening, so they're really anticipating having a new sibling in their lives. And I think they'll be good at being a big sister and big brother." Teigen announced her pregnancy on social media in August, and in September, she shared with PEOPLE that her two older children, Luna and Miles, were "very excited" about the new addition to their family.
The couple had used in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive, and knew they were pregnant only nine days after the procedure. "Since we did IVF, we knew probably nine days after we did the transfer that it had worked and we were pregnant," she said.
"I told them very, very early." "They knew that I was going in for the transfer, that we were going to go in and put this egg inside Mommy's belly. So they knew from the very, very beginning, and they knew there was a chance it might not work because that's happened before," explained Teigen.
The announcement of Teigen's pregnancy comes after the couple's heartbreaking loss of a child in 2018, due to a miscarriage caused by the separation of the placenta. They shared their pain publicly to show others who have gone through similar tragedies that it is possible to persevere and find hope.
Teigen said, "They've been excited for a long time... I feel like this is going to be the longest pregnancy to them because they've known since the day."
