George Clooney on his proposal to wife Amal: "It was a disaster"

On Friday, George Clooney was Drew Barrymore's guest in the new episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show" and talked about his wife Amal's proposal. Clooney described his marriage proposal to Amal as a "disaster" because the lawyer originally thought the seven-carat diamond ring belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends.

“It was a disaster, I planned it out, I planned the whole thing out,” the actor told Drew Barrymore on Friday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show. I’ve got the ring in a little drawer behind her, I’ve made dinner and we had only been dating for about six months”.

The actor noted that he planned for Amal to take something from the drawer where the ring was, while the song "Why Shouldn't I" played.

However, things quickly took a turn for the worse when the lawyer saw the ring and thought it belonged to one of Clooney's ex-girlfriends.

“She kind of pulls this thing out, this little drawer, and there’s a diamond ring in there,” the Academy Award winner continued, adding that Amal scoffed at the site of the sparkler. “And she looks at it and she’s like, ‘Uh there’s a ring in there.’ Like somebody left a ring there years ago.

And I’m like on my knee…,” he joked while rolling his eyes. After 20 minutes of the attorney saying “‘Oh my God, Oh my God,'” she finally said “yes”. The couple married just five months after a chaotic proposal in front of their closest friends and family during a lavish ceremony in Italy.

The A-list actor revealed the couple’s plan to teach their kids a second language backfired on them. We’ve made a terrible mistake,” the actor told host Gayle King. “We taught them Italian. But we don’t speak Italian.

So, we’ve armed them with a language they can harm us with. And we both don’t really know what they’re saying,” he joked, adding, “I’m from Kentucky. English is my second language”.
