Balenciaga terminated all contracts with Kanye West, just a month after he was their face in Paris. The company is disappointed with Kanye's recent statements on social networks and in interviews.
Balenciaga’s parent company Kering said:
“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist”.
West expressed anti-Semitic views, for which he persistently refused to apologize, and Balenciaga no longer had tolerance for it. For years, West had a great relationship with one of Balenciaga's main designers, who worked on the development of his fashion line, but the collaboration has now fallen apart.
The cancellation of the collaboration was announced by Balenciaga's sister company Kering, which cited the poor business results of Kanye's line as the reason, as well as his numerous controversial positions that do not agree with the company's positions.
West and Balenciaga have been collaborating since 2015. It was not surprising that West's fury did not abate as more fashion heavyweights distanced themselves from the rapper.
The announcement from Adidas
“After repeated efforts to privately resolve the situation, we have taken the decision to place the partnership under review.
We will continue to co-manage the current product during this period,” The company said it was proud to partner with Yeezy, describing the partnership as one of the most successful collaborations it has ever been involved in.
“He’s had a tremendous impact globally for us,” Rorsted told CNBC in August. “Kanye is our most important partner worldwide. We have a very, very good relationship with him. We communicate with him on a very ongoing basis.
And we’re very proud of that relationship”. The partnership between Kanye West's Yeezy and retailer Gap has ended “Yeezy notified Gap of its concerns in August and gave the company a contractually-designated 30 days to cure its breaches,” Nicholas Gravante, a lawyer for West, told CNBC at the time. Gravante said Gap took no action on the concerns, so Yeezy ended the relationship.
