The allure of 1980s aesthetics came roaring back to life with a fervent touch as a bespoke 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose, meticulously crafted by the adept hands at the Porsche Santa Clarita dealership, made a resounding impact at the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge hosted at the illustrious Werks Reunion in Monterey, California.

This extraordinary creation not only clinched hearts but also walked away with the distinguished People's Choice and Kids' Choice awards, solidifying its place as a crowd-favorite standout. The journey of this automotive masterpiece began with a rather unassuming origin.

Originally discovered in a state of disarray, marred by fire and corrosion damage, this 911 exemplified the essence of transformation waiting to unfold. The imperfections that cloaked its initial state paradoxically set the stage for an awe-inspiring metamorphosis.

Nostalgic Transformation: Power and Performance Upgrades

Embedded within the 1988 model year, an era enthusiasts fondly label as the G Series, the Porsche Santa Clarita team bestowed upon this embodiment of nostalgia the revered X83 slant nose option – a rarity that graced the later 964 generation and was, interestingly, exclusive to the Japanese market.

The iconic flat-six engine, turbocharged and boasting a displacement of 3.5 liters, deviated boldly from the stock 3.3-liter configuration. This powerhouse, accompanied by a custom oil cooler and a reconstructed transaxle featuring a limited-slip differential, commands a staggering output surpassing 850 horsepower.

For context, the factory iteration of this 911 Turbo managed a respectable 326 hp. Further enhancements include an upgraded suspension integrated with 997-generation 911 GT3 RS components, reinforced by the addition of precision-engineered coilovers by MCS.

A vivid Rubystar exterior coats this automotive masterpiece, adorned by an eye-catching design reminiscent of the quintessential late 1980s Trapper Keeper, characterized by a lively interplay of multicolored swirls against a dramatic black backdrop.

The visual splendor is elevated by turquoise blue basketweave-style wheels accentuated by polished lips. Beau Boeckmann, the astute President and Chief Operating Officer of Galpin Motors, the entity overseeing the Porsche Santa Clarita dealership, eloquently sums up the transformation: "Despite its origins marred by fire and corrosion, we were resolute in our pursuit to not only restore its period-correct allure both inside and out but also to inject a spine-tingling performance into its essence." The interior envelops occupants in a sea of nostalgic turquoise.

Seats feature a distinctive black-and-white checkerboard pattern referred to as pasha by Porsche. The instrument cluster, encased in a Rubystar frame, flaunts gauges with resplendent white faces. Modern comfort meets classic charm with an upgraded climate control system and a meticulously integrated stereo that fuses Porsche Classic radio components with the sophistication of Blaupunkt technology.

In the realm of automotive restoration, the rebirth of this 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose stands not just as a testament to restoration expertise, but also as a captivating narrative of how a vehicle's journey through time can be reimagined, redefined, and celebrated.
