Chevy Unveils 2024 Traverse: Fresh Look & Z71 Off-Road Upgrade

Chevrolet has unveiled the highly anticipated 2024 Traverse, a refreshed three-row SUV set to hit the market in early 2024. Boasting an updated exterior and interior design, the new Traverse will also introduce a rugged Z71 trim to cater to adventurous off-road enthusiasts.

The Traverse Z71 model stands out with its wider track and over an inch of increased ground clearance, attributes that are complemented by all-terrain tires wrapped around unique 18-inch wheels. This variant also features a trim-exclusive twin-clutch, all-wheel-drive system and an improved approach angle, courtesy of its distinctive fascia and prominent red tow hooks.

To enhance off-road capabilities, the Traverse Z71 is equipped with specialized dampers and hydraulic rebound control. The SUV offers various driver-selectable drive modes, including a Terrain Mode that comes with available hill descent control, enabling drivers to navigate challenging landscapes with ease.

In addition to the Z71 trim, Chevrolet will offer the 2024 Traverse in other configurations, such as the Traverse RS. The RS model boasts unique badging and eye-catching high-gloss black 22-inch aluminum wheels, paired with black accents on the grille, roof rails, and moldings.

This variant even incorporates a walk-up lighting animation to greet approaching owners. Inside the Traverse RS, a flat-bottom, three-spoke steering wheel takes center stage, while the cabin is adorned with Jet Black upholstery and stylish red accents.

Powerful Turbocharged Engine and Enhanced Drivetrain

Powering the 2024 lineup is a newly developed 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, projected to produce an estimated 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.

This engine marks an upgrade from the current 3.6-liter V6, delivering more power and performance to Traverse drivers. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes as standard, empowering the front wheels, while all-wheel drive is available, particularly for the Traverse Z71, which offers the exclusive twin-clutch system.

With a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, the Traverse is well-equipped for hauling needs. The 2024 Traverse will be available in LS and LT trims as well, catering to a wider range of preferences and budgets. The LS trim features eight seats with second and third-row bench seats, while the LT, Z71, and RS trims offer seven-passenger seating as standard, with second-row captain's chairs.

The Traverse RS provides the convenience of one-touch folding second-row and power-folding third-row seats, enabling users to transform the interior into a spacious cargo area of up to 97.6 cubic feet. The available AutoSense liftgate further facilitates easy access to the cargo space, enhancing practicality.

The technological advancements in the 2024 Traverse are impressive. The dashboard is dominated by a large 17.7-inch infotainment screen, significantly larger than the largest screen option in the previous model. The SUV comes equipped with six standard USB ports, with the option for wireless charging and a WiFi hotspot.

The driver benefits from an expanded 11.0-inch digital instrument display, providing a clear and comprehensive view of essential information. Chevrolet has paid attention to comfort and convenience, incorporating features like a pass-through center console and electronic transmission shifter mounted on the column.

Additionally, heated front and second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated outside mirrors are available to enhance comfort during cold weather. The advanced Super Cruise system is also available as an option, offering cutting-edge autonomous driving capabilities.

When it comes to safety, the 2024 Traverse prioritizes driver assistance technologies. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, follow distance indicator, forward collision alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, high beam assist, and front pedestrian and bicyclist braking.

These comprehensive safety measures are part of the Chevy Safety Assist package, providing peace of mind for Traverse occupants. Chevrolet has not disclosed pricing details at this time, but the 2024 Traverse is expected to go on sale in early 2024.

As a reference, the starting price for the 2023 Traverse LS FWD is $35,915 (including the $1,395 destination charge), while the RS trim begins at $46,440. Overall, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse presents a compelling package with its fresh design, versatile trims, improved powertrain, advanced technology, and robust safety features.

Whether tackling rugged terrains or providing comfortable transportation for families, the Traverse aims to deliver a well-rounded SUV experience.
