Audi has unveiled the Activesphere, the latest in a line of concept cars that offer a glimpse into the German automaker's vision of future mobility. Dubbed a "luxury coupe that transforms into a pickup," the Activesphere is a showcase of cutting-edge technology and design, featuring a versatile SUV-like electric vehicle that boasts a range of innovative features.
The Activesphere's Design
The Activesphere's design is a combination of the Sportback and Allroad models, featuring a sleek and sporty exterior with the capability of an off-road vehicle. The concept car is equipped with Audi's air suspension with adaptive dampers, which can increase the ground clearance by 40mm, and its massive 22-inch rims feature wings that open for optimal ventilation in off-road mode and close for better aerodynamics when driving on the road.
The car also boasts a glass roof, glass in the lower part of the door, and a glass grille, adding to the car's futuristic aesthetic.
Functional Features
The Activesphere's rear window is functional, moving flush with the roof to create space for cargo such as electric bikes.
The rear fascia folds down to create a tailgate, making the cargo area more accessible, and the motorized partition opens when the cargo area is in use, serving to separate the interior. The car's cabin seats four and features a large soundbar, full-width air vents, and AR headsets for the driver and passengers which enable the display of virtual content such as control panels and information screens.
When the car is in autonomous mode, the dashboard, steering wheel, and pedals disappear, but the large soundbar and full-width air vents remain functional. The seats seem to "float" in the cabin, and are connected to the central console that provides heating and cooling.
The system presents the user with a series of functions so that he can use them regardless of where he sits and provides customized content to each passenger.
The Activesphere's Performance
The Activesphere concept was developed on the Premium Platform Electric platform developed in cooperation with Porsche, which is used by various vehicles.
The Activesphere is powered by a battery with a capacity of around 100 kW and features two electric motors that deliver 242 hp and 720 Nm of torque, and drive is on all four wheels. Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development said: “The sphere concept vehicles show our vision for the premium mobility of the future.
We are experiencing a paradigm shift, especially in the interior of our future Audi models. The interior becomes a place where the passengers feel at home and can connect to the world outside at the same time. The most important technical innovation in the Audi activesphere is our adaptation of augmented reality for mobility.
Audi dimensions creates the perfect synthesis between the surroundings and digital reality”.
