The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) student-athletes have again demonstrated their exceptional commitment to academics and athletics. In a recent announcement by the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) on Tuesday, it was revealed that UTRGV student-athletes who participated in spring sports such as baseball, men's and women's golf, tennis, and outdoor track & field, as well as those who joined as freshmen or transfers, have earned an impressive total of 94 Academic All-WAC honors.
To be eligible for this prestigious recognition, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic year at the university, maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2, and actively participated in a significant portion of their respective team's contests (with a requirement of at least 50% for most sports, while pitchers needed a minimum participation of 20%).
These rigorous criteria serve as a testament to the exceptional dedication and commitment exhibited by the UTRGV student-athletes.
UTRGV's Impressive Contribution to WAC Academic All-WAC Honors
The accomplishment of UTRGV student-athletes is even more significant when considering the conference-wide statistics.
Across the entire WAC, a remarkable total of 1,257 student-athletes representing eight different sports, including softball, or those who joined as freshmen or transfers, were honored with a well-deserved place on the Academic All-WAC list.
UTRGV contributed significantly to this achievement, earning a staggering 126 Academic All-WAC awards throughout the year, with 22 in the fall season and 10 in the winter season. The commitment to excellence demonstrated by UTRGV student-athletes extends beyond their respective sports, as they consistently maintain high academic standards.
