Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Juventus to pay him 20 million euros, as reported by the Italian "Gazzetta dello sport". Ronaldo referred to the "secret document" he signed with the famous Italian club, in which he was promised 20 million euros, despite announcing salary adjustments during the height of the corona virus pandemic.
Juventus players did not waive their full salaries during the height of the pandemic, but the club reported that they were paid three instead of four months after signing private documents with the club. "Ronaldo publicly said that he agreed with the salary reduction, but a contract was secretly signed that guarantees him this amount, even in case he leaves the club.
"Ronaldo asked the lawyers to check the situation and study the financial situation of the Juventus club before submitting the request," says "Gazzetta dello sport". The entire management of Juventus led by the president Andrea Agnelli has resigned.
The Italian Football Federation launched an investigation against them for financial malfeasance, i.e. illegal payments of money to players in 2020 and 2021. Cristiano Ronaldo is also mentioned in a secret document found by the investigators, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
An agreement for 20 million euros
Despite announcing salary adjustments during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Juventus promised to pay former striker Cristiano Ronaldo a total of 20 million euros in that document. According to the Italian newspaper, the investigation focuses on alleged private documents signed between Juventus players and members of the first squad in 2020, which attempt to prove that Juventus players were not actually paying four months' salaries, but rather received payments for three months after signing these secret agreements.
Following the release of new information, Cristiano has reportedly been asked about his position on the matter, but he won't disclose anything until he is formally summoned to court. Ronaldo played for Juventus in the period from 2018 to 2021. Now he is with the Portuguese national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
