Ivan Toney on Southgate's deicison: "Obviously there's disappointment but.."

Ivan Toney had a great match in which he scored 2 goals. His team (Brentford) won the match against Manchester City. What surprised many is the fact that Toney is not on the list of players for the World Cup. Gareth Southgate, however, gave a chance to others.

"Listen, the only thing is keep doing well, keep doing my best. Obviously there's disappointment but I know what I'm capable of. I won't let it get me down," he told BT Sport. Toney is focused on how to help his team, and this season he is showing that he is one of the best strikers in the Premiership.

The only question is which club will be his next. If he continues like this, he will surely be in the top 3 attackers in terms of goals "Motivation is the boys in the dressing room and the fans. When we work hard, this is what we can do.

We know what we are capable of; it is what we doing week in week out in training. They might be Manchester City but they are humans. I think we deserved the tree points."

Gareth Southgate and Toney

Southgate commented on his decision to leave Toney out of the squad.

He knew that he was making decisions that would be scrutinized, and of course, criticism must follow regardless. For Toney, it will only be an additional motivation to continue the season. "I’ve not had that conversation because he wasn’t in our squad.

“For us, September was a good opportunity to have a look at Ivan on the training pitch, to learn a bit more about him, for him to see how we work. We knew and had discussed with him it was a long shot to be involved at this time in a World Cup.

Brentford has serious ambitions for this season and the next, but it is unlikely that they will be able to keep such a player.
