Mike Epps began his career in the limelight as a stand-up comedian after he moved to Atlanta. Then he served at Comedy Act Theater and later relocated to Brooklyn to star in Def Comedy Jam in 1995. He also starred in two of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam broadcasts.

Mike Epps made his first on-screen in Vin Diesel’s 1997 directorial debut Strays which was about a drug dealer and hustler who fed with his life and began to search for meaning in his life.

Then he appeared in the cameos in the movies like 3 strikes and as a supporting role in the Jamie Fox, Bait. In 2001, he lent his voice for the movie Dr. Dolittle 2.

Epps starred in the Paramount comedy The Fighting Temptations alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce Knowles in 2003. The following year, he played as a loud-mouthed garbage man in Fox Searching’s “Roll Bounce.”

Epps starred along with Sanaa Lathan in the romantic comedy movie Something New. He portrayed Ed Norton in the comedy film The Honeymooners in 2005 which is about a working-class New York bus driver, Ralph Kramden.

In 2009, he starred as Black Doug, a friendly, laid-back, drug dealer in the comedy movie The Hangover. He lent his voice to the bear character as Boog in the animated film Open Season 2 and also hosted the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards.

In the 2012 remake of the musical movie Sparkle, he played a lead role as Satin who is a stand-up comedic by day, evil and abusive drug kingpin by night.

Music Career

Mike Epps is not limited to Hollywood. He tries his luck in the music industry and released several songs throughout his career. In 2007, he had a small part in Hurricane Chris’s song A Bay Bay which peaked at No. 7 on Billboard Hot 100.

He and Pooh Bear their collaborative music video called Trying to Be a Gangsta. His songs: Big Girls and Funny Bidness – Da Album released in 2008. Further, he featured in rapper French Montanas mixtape Mac wit da Cheese which was released in April 2009 and Dom Kennedy’s song Intro/Hard Work.

His ex-wife has a minor role in the movie as his girlfriend. Unlike other celebrities, their marriage didn’t forever. The couple legally separated in 2017 after being together for more than a decades.

But this time it was Epps who had filed for divorce against his wife, McCain. She gave divorced him on the only condition of children support. Though he has not disclosed publicly why he divorce his wife?

The comedian-actor had to pay his ex-wife spousal support of $25,000 a month for the next five and half years. He paid $15,000 a month in child support for their two children including their education.

Michael Elliot Epps was born November 18, 1970, to Marry Reed and Tommy Epps at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later his family moved to Roosevelt Island, New York.

He was a natural comedic since his childhood and began performing stand-up as a teenager at comedy clubs in Hollis, Queens. But unfortunately, the stand-up comedian got involved with gangs and severed 18 months on drug charges.
